An ARC poster re-inspired

Today, we show you our first poster draft for the ARC’s virtual tutoring campaign.

Going into this design, we didn’t have much planned. Our first ideas included a dashed line navigating the reader down the page, but anything beyond that was up in the air. Getting started, we worked to instill a strong ethos behind the poster’s design that would serve a mostly informational intent. We did this because the key purpose of the poster is to inform: as long as the students knows that virtual tutoring at WPI is going on, a flashy design won’t change their minds in attending. This was the cornerstone of our thought process.

The banner of the poster is highly reminiscent of typical WPI promotional materials. This immediately affirms credibility and authority with the reader.

The body of our design consists of three complementary elements: the large step numbers, the bolded step names, and the dashed line interweaving the steps. All three of these elements build off each other to draw the reader down the poster, informing them both that tutoring sessions can be scheduled and how to do so.

The background consists of a non-intrusive educational pattern that works to break up the white background and spark interest at a glance. We think this element will set the poster apart enough from traditional WPI materials to intrigue the intended audience of WPI’s student community.

In our next blog, we will talk about how our initial audience test goes and what it might mean for our design. Check it out next time on our blog!
